District 202 is launching a new online Parent University called The Blend to better connect families to what is happening in teaching and learning. The focus of the Parent University for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year will be technology in the classroom.

Laura Shervino, District 202 Director of Digital Learning and Innovation said the goal of The Blend is to increase support and communication to parents about the digital platforms that students use daily as part of the curriculum.

The Parent University will be designed with consideration of the time of year, the different needs of our families, feedback from our community, and suggestions and ideas from our teachers.

The focus of the Parent University through the end of this school year is digital learning and innovation.

Here are the first set of topics:

  • Google Suite for Parents - January 2024
  • Digital Citizenship-Digital Footprints - February
  • Curriculum Resources - March
  • 21st Century Skills - AI in Education? - April
  • Chrome Care - How to take care of your device - May

New videos will be posted monthly, starting January 9, 2024 and then the first Monday of each month through May.

District 202’s  Instructional Technology Coaches will deliver monthly on-demand training that will introduce parents to the digital platforms embedded into daily teaching and learning.

For the 2024-2025 school year, all Parent University learning opportunities will be published before the start of school.

Parents can give feedback on upcoming topics through a survey in the spring of 2024.

The Parent University supports a Curriculum and Instruction goal to systemize and improve communication with families around academics and is a component of the District 202 2023-2028 Strategic Plan.

“As we look to align initiatives to our yearly goals in the Curriculum and Instruction department, the strategic plan provides guidance from our community,” Shervino said.

“It lends an important aspect of perspective from what our community partners feel is important for the direction of Plainfield School District.”
