two high school students wearing medals from Special Olympics at Summer Games

Nine middle and high school student-athletes brought home Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals from the Illinois Special Olympic Summer Games on June 7 and 8.

Twelve - seven high school and five middle school - student-athletes competed in the games hosted at various sites in Bloomington and Normal last weekend.

This is the first year for Special Olympics in District 202’s middle schools.

These high school students earned medals or placed in the Summer Games:

  • Jack Chlebos, sophomore, Plainfield East High School – Gold, 50M run

  • Nick Chiarito, senior, Plainfield East High School – 7th place, softball throw

  • Jake Flores, senior, Plainfield East High School – 7th place, mini javelin

  • Dylan Hornberger, senior, Plainfield East High School – 4th place, 50M run

  • Cody Reid, freshman, Plainfield South High School – Bronze, softball throw

  • Nathan Smith, freshman, Plainfield East High School - Gold, standing long jump

  • Cameron Stowe, freshman, Plainfield East High School – Gold, mini javelin

These middle school students earned medals or placed in the Summer Games:

  • Danny Arrez, sixth grade, Drauden Point Middle School – Gold, tennis ball throw

  • Lily Diversey, sixth grade, Ira Jones Middle School - Gold, mini javelin and Silver, 50M run

  • Jonah Flores, sixth grade, Ira Jones Middle School – Silver, 100M run and 4th place mini javelin

  • Wade Noble, seventh grade, Ira Jones Middle School – Gold, tennis ball throw

  • Eizlee Reyes, seventh grade, Ira Jones Middle School - Silver, 100M run and running long jump
