Creekside giving celebrates a milestone
Creekside Elementary School celebrated its 20th Season of Giving gift drive this year.
This year the school was able to provide gifts to 27 children.
Fourth-grade teacher Denise Malik runs the drive, in which the school collects gifts for families based on need.
Malik also has her “elves” - Ms. Kocurek, Mrs. Garcia, Mrs. Milano, Mrs. Pharo, Mrs.
Owen, Mrs. Wilson, and Mrs. Herlien – help get things organized.
Malik creates confidential child profiles – no names attached – to share with classrooms.
Students visit classrooms to talk about the program and a specific child profile to help the cause.
This year the North Pole got a bit bigger with almost the entire Creekside staff wrapping the gifts.
And Santa came a little early when a community member donated $2,000 in gifts including two new bicycles.
“It’s very humbling and restores your faith in humanity when so many people step forward to help these families have an abundant Christmas,” Malik said.
