The Plainfield High School-Central Campus Wind Ensemble will perform at the SuperState Concert Band Festival at the University of Illinois.
The group performs at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024, in the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.
The festival is free and open to the public.
The ensemble was one of six out of 18 applicants in Class 2A to be selected, said Christopher Vanderwall, director of bands.
“SuperState is considered the state championship of concert band events,” he said.
“One band from each class is selected as the Honor Band and automatically invited back the following year, but the real honor is being selected for the festival.”
More than 80 concert bands across Illinois typically apply each year to be part of the festival.
Bands must submit recordings that are evaluated and ranked by college music educators across the country.
About 30 bands are selected to perform at the two-day festival. Students also will participate in master classes with the University of Illinois faculty and hear the university’s Wind Symphony perform.
The band was last selected for SuperState in 1999.
