An assistant principal from Maercker School District 60 is the new principal at Wesmere Elementary School.

The Board of Education at its Wednesday, June 26, 2024, regular meeting approved hiring Ashley Lamorte as the next principal at Wesmere.

She started work on July 1.

Lamorte most recently served as the assistant principal at Maercker Intermediate School in the Maercker School District 60 in Westmont.

She was assistant principal at Maercker for six years.

Lamorte also worked as an instructional coach and reading specialist in the Troy School District 30C.

She started her career as a teacher in Flossmoor School District 161.

Lamorte said she was intrigued by the district’s strategic plan goals.

“I feel my experience in a variety of roles will allow me to effectively collaborate with staff to move them forward,” she said.

“I am most looking forward to getting to know the students, staff and families that are part of Wesmere community and partnering with them to ensure all students have a successful school year.”

 Lamorte’s experience in areas such as social-emotional learning, collaboration, and reading intervention made her the right fit for Wesmere, said Dr. Scott Fink, Director of Administration and Personnel for Elementary Schools for District 202.
