Here is what students need to know to test for the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy

What is the Seal of Biliteracy?

The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by a school, district, or state in recognition of students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation.

What are the benefits of having the Seal of Biliteracy?

It is beneficial to have the Seal of Biliteracy on your transcript to earn college credit.

How do you qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy?

To qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy, you must achieve either a rating of Intermediate-High on the Avant STAMP test or a score of 4 on the AP World Language test in addition to one of the following:

  • “B” or 3.0 GPA in Rhetoric 1 or Rhetoric 2

  • ACT English score of 20 or composite score of at least 21 

  • 480 ELA score on the SAT

  • AP English Language Composition of 4

  • 4.8 overall on the ACCESS test for EL only

Which languages are offered to test for the Seal of Biliteracy?

The Seal of Biliteracy Avant STAMP test is offered in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

How do you register for the STAMP test and what is the cost?

Registration will open on January 15, 2025. To register for the STAMP test, go to the PSD 202 District Website and click on the test icon. The cost is $24.90 per test. The $20 proctoring fee will be covered by District 202.

ASL students - cost is $34.90 per test due to the video portion involved

What are the testing dates and locations?

Registration will open January 15, 2025 and close on April 29, 2025. The STAMP test will be online with a proctor.  Once a student pays for the test, he/she can schedule their test for a date/time of their choice.

Is there a registration deadline?

The deadline to complete the test is April 29, 2025.
