District 202 students earned top honors in the Plainfield Public Library’s 23rd annual Short Story Contest.
The Short Story Contest was open to students in grades 4 through 6. Students wrote an original story, ranging from 500 to 650 words. The contest ran from December 2024 to January 19, 2025.
The library received 38 entries from District 202 and other area schools.
Author Kristi Wientge judged this year’s contest. Wientge wrote “Karma Khullar’s Mustache,” Honeybees and Frenemies,” and “Best Friends, Bikinis, and Other Summer Catastrophes.”
Wientge announced the winners on March 1, 2025, after she spoke to all those who submitted stories. She also personally met with the winners.
The winning District 202 students, and their stories, are:
4th Grade
1st: “How NOT to Write a Story” by Graham Fisher (Elizabeth Eichelberger Elementary School)
2nd: “Friends” by Corinne Labriola (Elizabeth Eichelberger Elementary School)
3rd: “The Brainiac Squad” by Kennedy McKenna (River View Elementary School)
5th Grade
1st: “The Planet of Blergewomp” by Lily Crego (River View Elementary School)
2nd: “No Time Like the Past” by Karlee Madden (Liberty Elementary School)
6th Grade
1st: “A Willow in the Woods” by Aisha Chavda (Timber Ridge Middle School)
2nd: “Walking Elsewhere” by Sarvik Narwade (Heritage Grove Middle School)
3rd: “Beyond the Glimmering Sea” by Nada Kettou (Heritage Grove Middle School)
